My Music Background
I am a composer of songs and instrumental works. I also arrange and orchestrate music.
Education: I received my BA in Music, along with Minors in Theatre Arts and in Entrepreneurship from San Diego State University. I also studied recording techniques and electronic music at San Diego City College and San Diego Mesa College, Percussion Performance at CSU Long Beach and Fullerton College, and Jazz Studies at UNLV and San Diego State.
Throughout college, I studied classical music theory, jazz music theory, music history, counterpoint, and orchestration. I also performed in jazz combos, vocal jazz ensembles, chamber music ensembles, vocal styling and music theatre workshop classes, and more.
I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was very young, before I learned how to read music (I could barely read words then!) or knew what musical notation was. I’d write down the note names from my little Casio keyboard on little pieces of paper, and my mom thought they were secret coded messages!
In elementary school, I joined the school band as a clarinet player and played for 6 years. I played mallet percussion in junior high and high school, continuing with them throughout college and adding in hand drums, drum set, and steel drums along the way!
